In December 2010 the Department for Transport (DfT) commissioned TNS-BMRB, an independent research organisation, to carry out an interim report and accompanying dataset of the survey findings on climate change and transport choices. Today the DfT announces the publication of the segmentation model report and accompanying datasets.
Climate Change and Transport Choices Segmentation Model
The segmentation model provides a rich, nationally representative picture of nine distinct segments or groups within the adult (age 16 plus) population of England, defined by their transport behaviour, attitudes to transport, attitudes to climate change and the environment, characteristics and circumstances. In particular, the model illustrates:
- How the motivators and barriers to sustainable transport interact to form distinct segments within the population
- Which policy options for reducing emissions may be more or less effective with which segments
- Which segments may be seen as higher and lower priority for those wishing to reduce transport’s emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
