Consumer Protection

We work with many of the most important regulatory bodies and consumer organisations in the UK, to help them understand the consumer interest, to define, measure and understand it, and to develop policy to improve it.

TNS-BMRB puts the consumer and their needs, interests and rights, at the heart of policymaking and service design, helping our clients make difficult choices in this dynamic and contested environment. Our multi-faceted approach involves identifying changing consumer attitudes, understanding key consumer support issues and consumer behaviour in relation to these, reviewing regulatory regimes and their effectiveness and working with stakeholder engagements to highlight trade-offs between commercial and public interests that may have to be made by policymakers.

Our work is high impact. Examples include:

  • providing research for the Consumer Purchasing Outcomes Survey (CPOS) for the Financial Services Authority (FSA);
  • for the Pensions Regulator on 2012 pension reform;
  • for the Food Standards Agency, on front of pack labelling; and
  • for the Environment Agency on radioactive substance regulations and ways to counter flood risk.
