Mark Peters – Head, Education Policy Group
Mark Peters is Director and Head of TNS-BMRB’s Education Policy Group. Mark joined BMRB Social Research in 1999. He has seventeen years’ social research experience. Prior to working at BMRB, Mark worked for Public Attitude Surveys, where he managed a number of policy-related studies.
Mark oversees our research work in the education and skills sector. Recent projects have included the DfE flagship Evaluation of Extended Services and its Evaluation of the Extended Schools Subsidy Pathfinder. Mark is also involved in a range of research, focused on adult learning and skills. Projects include the 2010 Skills for Life Survey and the Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competences (PIAAC) – the most comprehensive international survey of adult skills ever undertaken.
He also has a lot of experience of researching schools and issues affecting the teacher workforce. This has included evaluations of the Behavioural Impact of Changes in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and an evaluation of Workforce Remodelling Strategies and their Impact on School Standards.
Mark has an interest in research amongst children and young people and provides client training in this area of research. He has directed TNS-BMRB’s input in the Longitudinal Study of Young People in England, since it was set up in 2003.
Mark has a further interest in the area of parental engagement and involvement and has presented at national conferences on this subject. He managed TNS-BMRB’s Parents’ Panel research and was involved in the Parents’ Involvement in Children’s Education Survey.
Mark is involved in training government social researchers via the National School of Government’s ‘Essential Skills for Government Research’ programme. He graduated from Cardiff University with a First Class Honours Degree in Sociology and Social Policy. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Research Methods.
